28th April 2005 Trade Unionists and family members of those who have lost their lives to asbestosis related diseases attended a memorial organised by York TUC on the former site of the York Carraige Works as part of Workers' Memorial Day. Also in attendance were parliamentary candidates Hugh Bayley (Labour), Andrew Waller (Liberal Democrats) and Andy D'Agorne (Green Party).

Around 100 people attended a rally in central York taking part in the TUC's 'Protecting Public Pensions' Campaign day. Trade unionists from unions including Amicus, AUT, CWU, GMB, NASUWT, PCS & UNISON showed the strength of unity across the public sector unions against the government's proposed changes to public sector pensions. Representatives from local pensioners groups also spoke at the rally. 5th November 2004
Members of the Public and Commercial Services union took part in a 24 strike against the Government's plans to axe 1 in 5 civil service jobs. In York picket lines were present at the DWP, DEFRA, Inland Revenue, Job Centre and Imphal Barracks. Picket line outside Stonebow job centre

Local residents, community groups and businesses attended a meeting called by York TUC to discuss the next move in the campaign against parking charges. Link
York TUC organised a rally outside Guildhall during a meeting of York City Council to protest against night time parking fees and the increase in double yellow lines. Around 50 local residents, business owners and members of local community groups joined the protest, which is causing an increasing wave of anger against the current Lib Dem council. Later Brian Anderson from York TUC addressed the council chamber to pass on the concerns of the people of York. 24th July 2004
On Thursday 23rd July York TUC held a public meeting at the Railway Institute about the current problems facing York Residents since the introduction of night time parking fees and an increase in double yellow lines. The meeting was attended by around 100 local residents, trade unionists, small business owners, pensioners, charities, religious groups and arts groups. Lib Dem head of City Of York council failed to give adequate reasons for the financial attack on York residents. And it was clear from the strength of feeling at the meeting, that these actions have to be reversed immediately. York TUC will continue to press for a reversal in the parking policy, with a council lobby to be held at 5pm outside Guildhall on Thursday 29th July. More than three hundred civil service jobs are to be axed in York - less than two years after they were created. The York Pensions Centre at Monks Cross, which only opened in September, 2002, is closing as part of an efficiency drive within the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). TRADES unionists are pressing ahead with a mass lobby of York councilors against controversial parking charges and restrictions. Link
THE battle to save Terry's for York is over. Parent company Kraft Foods today confirmed it was pressing ahead with the closure of the famous chocolate factory and transfer of production abroad, with the loss of 316 jobs. Link 9th June 2004
The company announced today that work in its Life business services division will be transferred to IT outsourcing companies, operating globally in locations including India, Europe and America.

Lecturers, researchers and academic related staff from the AUT union at the University of York and nationally today started 2 days of industrial action over a proposed new grading structure and pay offer.
